In The News: Our New Executive Director

National Member Task Force
San Antonio NARI Executive Director Martha Bizzell at the NARI National Member Task Force event in Chicago, November 2015

From ConstructionNews.net:

In August, Martha Bizzell, operations manager for CROSS, became the executive director of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) San Antonio Chapter.

When she joined CROSS, formerly Cross Construction, four years ago, she became familiar with NARI. Prior to taking on her new role in the San Antonio Chapter, she served on the board of directors for the past two years.

She currently serves on two national committees for NARI, the Workforce Development Task Force and the National Members Task Force, both dedicated to growing the association. Last year, she served on the National Entry Level Remodeler Certificate Committee.

“To say it is in my blood is an understatement,” says Bizzell. “Growing up in an early 1900s farmhouse in Ithaca, NY that my parents bought when I was 2 and ‘officially’ finished when I was 19, I watched first-hand the labor-intensive passion and craftsmanship that my parents put into our home, and what the true meaning of remodeling was.”

As a nonprofit trade association, NARI’s goal is to help consumers get the maximum value from a professional remodeler. NARI also offers education and training for professional remodelers.

“The members are really the elite in the industry; they’re the folks that are kind of charged with carrying the flag for the remodeling industry,” declares Bizzell. “Unfortunately, the industry itself doesn’t have such a great reputation because there are a lot of unethical operators out there that dupe homeowners. NARI members are the professionals that seek out extra education and certifications and they want to set themselves apart from the other competitors in the industry.

“Our goal for the San Antonio Chapter and the surrounding areas is to educate and familiarize homeowners with NARI, to work with the licensed and certified remodelers and suppliers and vendors who make up this association.”

Wish for Our Heroes Project

Throughout the month of October, the San Antonio NARI Chapter will be remodeling the bathroom of Tech Sgt. Dan Fye, who lost his left leg and suffered serve damage to his right leg while serving in Afghanistan. NARI is remodeling the entire bathroom, including the counters, cabinets, floors, lights and of course, the shower. The new bathroom will make it easier and less stressful for Fye to bathe.

This project is being done through Wish for Our Heroes.

About Wish for Our Heroes

WISH for OUR HEROES is a national 501(c)(3), dedicated to assisting the men and women of the United States active-duty military. WISH for OUR HEROES launched in November of 2009, in honor of 1SG Thomas G. Wells, who was a career Marine. The founders of WISH for OUR HEROES served on active-duty and while deployed, they recognized that a serious need existed within our military ranks. There were so many great charities in existence, but the majority of them focused on specific groups or categories: WIA, KIA, bankruptcy, divorce, etc. There were no charities that focused on not only helping military members falling into these extreme categories, but also helping the average, hard-working military member going through a difficult time. WISH for OUR HEROES saw the toll that war takes on families back home, and we needed something that could help families with small issues. Small issues can spiral into larger issues, and larger issues can spiral into things like divorce, suicide, and all of those problems our military members face as a result of daily military life.
